I love how they look so much like a 68 Mustang.

Cool, they look better in light colors for some reason... can't wait to see them for real.

I am still not sold on the "retro" look, and those wheels are pretty bad. I will reserve final judgement until I see one in person though.

Maybe so about the wheels, but I doubt half of them will have the stock ones within a year of owership.

Yeah, these don't do much for me, I've never much like that particular style. As for the retro thing, it doesn't bother me much here. I can't deny the retro in it, but I see the previous generation Mustang in it too (the short trunk for example). Granted, the previous generation Mustang was meant to take cues from the Classic Stangs too.

I don't have a problem with the looks, in fact I rather like it.
But I do take issue with Ford's decision to fit the car with a solid live rear axle.

Uhh, HELLO? Earth to Ford! Do you know what model year this is?
Yep, it's 2005 not 1965. Retro looks I can live with but this is taking things a bit too far. The retro theme shouldn't extend to the engineering as well.

Since the new Mustang is built on a shortened Jaguar S-Type/Lincoln LS chassis, can we PLEASE have the IRS from those cars too?

Leave it to Ford to pinch pennies in all the wrong places!

The interior, mainly the gauges, are retro, but I don't see the exterior as retro at all. From the pics, it looks great.

On the "What have you done for me lately" front, their last retro-ish Jag platformed two door didn't do well.

Very true. I've heard there is still hope for the Mustang Cobra, but I doubt much will come of that either. Hell, my parent's Expedition has IRS.

They left the solid rear axle for the enthusiasts. They wanted a rear axle...

But like you said; the bean counter enthusiasts is who we are talking about here.

You can then plunk the extra money for an aftermarket IRS. Since Ford kept the design pretty straightforward, you can bet that you will have virtually no problems finding some sweet aftermarket parts.

And it's generally stupid to classify a car as "poor handling" when you haven't driven it yet. Also, not everyone purchases a musclecar to be a handler-- people drag-race them too, and live axel setups seem to work pretty well for them...

Though IRS' generally handle tighter than Live Axels, there are exceptions to the rule. I, for one, will not pass judgement on the rear suspension until I've test-driven one.

Isn't a long hood and short rear sort of a staple of the ponycar formula?

Admittedly, I liked the rear of the concepts a little better, but I don't think they did too badly with what they did, all things considered.

That Legend Lime is beginning to grow on me, but the Screaming Yellow kinda tickles my fancy... I'd love to see what that would be like with a 5.4L V-8, Tremec 6-MT and a "BOSS 5.4" designation... with black stripes and accents

My children shall be concieved in no other car

Well, the trunk looks more like the last Mustang (shorter) to me, but yeah that is the Pony car forumla.

The 5.4L might be sweet, but I'll hold out for the rumored 5.8L (350.9ci) V-10.

The Sept 2003 Issue of MotorTrend had a piece about an "unofficial" V-10 Mustang running around Ford HQ. Something some engineers and high-ups at Ford threw together for fun. Since then I've read some rumors it might hit production, but nothing is really confirmed. They're also making a 6.1L truck engine to compete with the Hemi image, thats confirmed I think.

American V-8 Power: Ford Mustang Boss 350 V-10. Odd to have a V-10 Mustang in an issue about V-8s, but cool nonetheless.

Yeah, I think that is the name of the 6.1L (or 6.2L, I'm not sure) they're making to compete with the DCX Hemi. Last I'd read, suppliers were bidding on parts to make for it and Ford was declining to comment. Rumors (again, rumors) are it will have more power than the upcoming 6.1L Hemi.

New Mustang

As someone who has been driving for 35 years, and who has never owned an American made car, I was excited when I saw the Mustang Concept. But it seems like Ford is unable to translate concept vehicles to production without returning to that standard blah Ford look. I am just disappointed.

Yeah, I also think they made a bit of a mistake by making the shape a little more curvy (those idiots at Motor Trend complained about the lines of the concepts being too "straight" and "butch.")

From a marketing perspective, however, it may have been a good idea. While the concepts were more attention-grabbing, I don't think they would wear with time as well as the final product. Maybe we could pressure Ford into something closer to the concepts when the next generation of Mustang needs a sheetmetal refresh?
